Byron Bay Microlights Fly-in - Tyagarah 1 – 4 October 2010

This year the Byron Bay Microlights and Airborne fly-in at Tyagarah airfield was very wet. Congratulations and a big thank you to pilots who made it to Byron Bay despite the rain and wind: DSC_2173

Colin Alston from Gunnedah

Len Birger from Somersby

Greg Duffy from Canberra

Russell Duncan from Newcastle

Kel Mitchener from Melbourne

Len Resnekow from Sydney

Simon Treloar from Sydney

Peter Wilson from Tumut

The visitors, their passengers and a few local pilots were summonsed to watch AFL and NRL finals rather than enjoying the scenery of the Rainbow Country, surfing beaches, the Great Dividing range and migrating whales.

Mitch the “wise man” watching Somersby pilots ready for taxing.

The Monday departure was not an easy decision for anybody.
The latest air services and BOM forecasts were analysed and pilots made  their own decisions about whether to fly or not. Mitch decided to leave his trike and fly Jetstar to bring  his trike trailer to Byron. The others took off to test the conditions and ability to handle the weather.

Len Birger and Len Resnekow came back and landed at Tyagarah just when the airstrip was marked as not serviceable.

Others continued on and eventually made it home in spite of some adverse weather conditions. It will be a trip they remember.
