Whale watching flights are 30 to 35 minutes long. They are available between June and November during the Humpback whale migration from their summer feeding grounds in Antarctica towards their north winter breeding grounds in the tropical waters of the Southern Hemisphere. The migration journey takes them past Australia’s most eastern point and concentrates the migrating whales to within a few kilometres of Cape Byron.
This makes Byron Bay one of Australia’s premier whale watching locations. The migratory path brings them so close to the shore that they are often sighted within a few hundred meters of Cape Byron. This often allows encounters with whales within minutes of take off.
From above you can clearly see individual whales in small groups, quite often with their calves, and observe their behaviour over a long distance. We make sure not to disturb them in any way and at the same time giving you the unforgettable experience seeing them from different perspective.
The flight is over the water and covers area from Ballina overhead Lennox Head to Byron Bay depending on whale movements.
Duration: 30-40 minutes. Price: $180
We will supply an insulated flight suit for you and some warm clothing but if you feel more comfortable in your own bring them with you.
Flights start from Ballina/Byron Gateway Aerodrome between 6:00 and 16:30. Flights from Tyagarah available by special appointment.
